Dr Peter J. HeenanMBBS, MRCPath., FRCPA, FRCPathConsultant Dermatopathologist and Clinical Associate Professor Dr Heenan completed his histopathology training at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and developing an interest in skin pathology returned to Perth in 1974 as specialist pathologist, Repatriation General Hospital, Hollywood from 1974 to 1976. This was followed by an appointment as Senior Lecturer, Department of Pathology, The University of Western Australia and subsequently Associate Professor. Dr Heenan’s private practice as consulting dermatopathologist has operated from Cutaneous Pathology in Nedlands since 1987. His current research activities in WA include: a prospective study to investigate the prognostic significance of an RT-PCR assay for the detection of melanoma cells in the circulation of patients; margins of excision for melanoma; local recurrence of melanoma; the role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma patients; adenosquamous carcinoma; lethal non-melanocytic skin cancer; and the histogenesis of basal cell carcinoma. At Cutaneous Pathology, Dr Heenan and his colleagues conduct a specialist service in diagnostic histopathology of skin diseases, provide a consultant service in dermatopathology to other laboratories, and conduct regular tutorials for trainees in dermatology, pathology and plastic surgery. |
