Dr Trevor W. Beer

Dermatopathologist

Dr Beer qualified in Medicine at the University of Birmingham, UK. He attained Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) in 1993 and became a consultant histopathologist at the Royal Hospital Haslar, Gosport. In 1997 he undertook a short Visiting Fellowship to Dr AB Ackerman’s Institute of Dermatopathology in Philadelphia and in 2000 he undertook a similar Fellowship to Dr PH McKee’s Department of Dermatopathology at Harvard University, Boston. Moving to Perth, WA in 2001, he worked at Royal Perth Hospital and attained the FRCPA before specialising in full-time Dermatopathology at Cutaneous Pathology, Nedlands. Dr Beer has written more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals with principal areas of research being in dermatopathology and malignant mesothelioma. Current research includes work on Merkel cell carcinoma of the skin and involvement in updating the melanoma chapter in the latest UICC Prognostic Factors in Cancer publication. He is a pathology assessor for the Western Australian Melanoma Advisory Service, reviewing melanoma patients referred for specialist treatment. He is a reviewer for the journal Pathology, book reviewer for the British Medical Association and is an Executive Member of the International Society of Dermatopathology. Dr Beer has recently become the Dermatopathology Convener for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Quality Assurance Program.
